Two-Wheeler

Two-Wheeler

The ever-rising number of road accidents in India due to traffic on roads, heavy rainfalls, etc., is a matter of concern. It is mandatory to have a third-party insurance cover on every vehicle that runs on Indian roads. If any individual is found to ride/drive without motor insurance is bound to go under legal procedures of having to pay huge penalties.

Two-wheeler insurance

Two-wheeler insurance is a policy that provides cover to the two-wheeler, i.e., bike, scooter, etc., owner in case of accidents, theft, damage, or any third party liability. The two-wheeler insurance comes to the rescue in case of damages and unwanted losses in such cases.

Two-wheeler third party insurance

A third-party insurance policy is a mandatory policy for every two-wheeler in India. This policy provides coverage against damages or injuries caused to other persons/property due to the insured vehicle. Though this policy does not bear the cost of losses/damages to the insured vehicle and does not provide any cover to the rider/driver in case of a personal accident.

Comprehensive/Package policy

Under the comprehensive policy, the two-wheeler is covered against theft, loss, or damage. This policy is comparatively wider in scope in terms of coverage. It covers both third-party liability coverage as well as the damages/losses suffered by the bike itself. Moreover, this policy can also provide personal accidental cover to the rider/owner of the vehicle.

Apart from these usual covers, there are add-ons covers to enhance the coverage of two-wheeler insurance that can be chosen by payment of an additional amount on premium.

No Claim Bonus/NCB

No Claim Bonus or NCB is a reward provided by the insurer as a discount or savings on the premium to the owner. This bonus is only obtainable if there is no claim made during the insurance policy term. The rate at which the NCB increases every year is 5% for every claim-free year and goes up to 50%. This bonus promotes safe driving amongst owners as it is available as a bonus.

Own Damage Discount

Own Damage (OD) helps to stay covered against damage caused to the insured vehicle due to accident, theft, losses caused due to fire, damages due to natural calamity. The OD cover compensates for the expense of repairs or replacement of parts damaged in such cases.

Earlier, there used to be a fixed tariff rate on OD premiums, but now, due to de-tariffing, OD discount is the discount rate that the insurance companies offer on the premium amount keeping the tariff rates as the base.

Premium discount

Insurance companies provide discounts on premium amounts, but these discounts are based on various factors:

  • -> driving record of the individual
  • -> opting for add-ons with the basic policy
  • ->discounts based on age
  • -> the policy renewal is on-time that is, before the due date
  • -> installation of security-enhancing equipment
  • -> buying various insurance policies from the same insurance company
  • -> filing a claim only if necessary
  • -> managing the deductible as per the needs.
  • -> buying a policy for long-term
  • -> buying the policy online
  • -> maintaining a good credit score

Zero depreciation

Usually, while the claim is provided, deductions for depreciation due to normal wear and tear of the vehicle are made on it. But under zero depreciation cover, the claim settlement is not affected by the depreciation, and no deduction is made on this account, and the full amount is paid.

Nevertheless, there are so many options and discounts available for two-wheeler insurance; many people don’t buy it or merely buy the third-party policy. It is compulsory for all vehicles. By doing this, they refrain from the benefits provided by other policies and end up paying comparatively more for lesser coverage. Therefore, it is always prudent to have a prior study and get a good knowledge of various insurers’ various policy options and choose amongst the best with the most benefits at reasonable costs.

With its 21 years of excellence, Probus Insurance helps its clients choose the best policy from its wide range of options by providing consulting and advisory services. It also aims at constantly providing improved insurance solutions.

Multiyear Two-Wheeler Insurance

If you want to purchase a Two-Wheeler or a two-wheeler it is your responsibility to secure it with insurance. Buying such a policy for your Two-Wheeler of two-wheeler is very easy with most of the insurance companies going digital.

A premium calculator makes it far easier to get a quote and renew it online.

But with our busier schedule, we normally trend to keep up with dates and in the bargain lose important benefits on our Two-Wheelers. Furthermore, riding a two-wheeler without valid insurance will lead you to trouble and you are not protected in the event of a mishap.

Potentially speaking many just avoid to renew their insurance in time and there is no aid in the event of unforeseen incidents.

Why Multi-Year

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India(IRDAI) detected that most of the two-wheel owners feel it pointless to renew their Two-Wheeler insurance, without being aware that they are no more protected in an event of mishap or accident that can happen anytime.

To make life simple the insurance companies have come up with an option for multiyear insurance renewal under the supervision of IRDAI. The multiyear two-wheeler insurance policy can be up to 3 years.

This encourages the owner of the two-wheeler to have an insurance policy securing safety for themselves and their loved ones.

A multi-year two-wheeler policy has several benefits

• No hassles of yearly renewal: Getting a yearly policy and keeping it renewed on a timely basis can be tedious.

• Costing of the premium is lower: A long term policy cost if much lesser than the short term. This saves you from the inflation that may kick in during the second and third year of the policy.

• Discounts: Getting insurance policy for multi-year can also give you an additional discount which is at the sole discretion of the insurance provider.

• No laps of policy: You need not worry about getting new Insured Declared Value. Thus, stay stress-free.

• Avoid penalties: Once you have your policy in place you are secure from penalties from traffic cops without which you may land paying huge in fines.

• Policy cancellation: A policyholder is not bound for a multi-year policy. You can withdraw the policy and get a refund of the unused premium. However, ensure that you have a valid insurance policy before canceling.

Save Money on Yearly Hikes in Third-Party Premium

Well, you can assume that the cost of the premium will be 3 times the normal cost of premium in a multi-year policy. Once the amount is derived you need to pay the wholesome amount at one go and there cannot be a revision of premium in the tenure of the multi-year insurance policy.

The amount for the multi-year policy will marginally less, compared to a single year policy. The insurance company deducts the administrative cost for the second and third years. Thus, this gives a saving benefit to the customer.

One might think that the terms of coverage will be different, but you need not worry the terms remain the same for a multi-year policy as in for a single year policy.

The most important factor here is that you are free from inflation that might hit the cost of premium the following and subsequent year. Nothing to worry you will not be affected with the inflation until your next renewal.

To make it even more attractive the insurance companies offer an upfront discount on the premium amount while opting for a multi-year insurance policy.

Stay Stress-Free from Yearly Renewals

Considering a two-wheeler among the other vehicles, the insurance premium of a two-wheeler is the cheapest.

It is a mandate for two-wheel owners to have a basic coverage of insurance. The stats state that nearly over 60 percent of the Two-Wheeler owners have not been renewing the insurance policy.

Understanding the busy schedule, one might forget to renew the Two-Wheeler insurance, hence the multi-year policy comes in as a savior to them.

Riding might be fun, but riding without valid insurance is an offense. You can be fined for not owning a valid insurance policy.

No Need to Pay Hefty Fines

As we are aware that riding a vehicle without valid insurance is a punishable offense. One needs to understand the ownership of a policy is as important as ownership of a two-wheeler. Long-Term insurance will protect you and shield you from unpredictable causes.

Rather than forgoing any customer, the insurance company offers you a multi-year policy which saves your time and trouble of renewing it every year. Once you have your insurance in place for multi-year you can be stress-free as you will not be violating the Motor vehicle laws.

Thus, a valid policy will save you from paying hefty fines to the cops.

Take Ones and No Worry About Policy Expiry

The biggest challenge one might be facing is to renew the policy in time. This could be due to the process of physically going and renewing the policy. This whole process takes a considerable time which is not affordable today.

Buying a long-term insurance policy for your two-wheeler will reduce the risk of a policy expiring every year. It will save you time and money as well.

Hence it is advisable to opt for multi-year two-wheeler insurance, stay protected and worry less about the expiry.

• Location: Living in a metropolitan city will derive a higher charge on premium as there is a higher risk of road accidents.

• Anti-Theft Device: Installing an anti-theft device approved by the Automotive Research Association of India will give you a special discount from the insurer.

• No claim Bonus: No claims in the policy year will give you additional benefits where you get a discount on the component of the premium.

• Add-on: When you opt on additional add-ons to the bike or two-wheelers, the coverage increases thus making the premium amount to soar up.

• Modification: many time to enhance the performance we tend to modify our bikes, such modification in the preview of the insurer is a risk undertaken, thus to be safer the insurer will demand a higher premium.
