As summer vacations kick in, more Indian travellers are jetting off to international destinations, particularly Europe and the US. According to Policybazaar.com, travel to Schengen countries and the USA spikes sharply between April and September — by as much as double the usual demand.
Policybazaar’s data shows Europe sees 23-29% of travel between April and September, compared to 20-23% in winter months.
The US sees 10-14% of travel during the same period, dropping to 5-8% during the off-season.
This surge also brings a reminder: Travel insurance isn’t optional — it’s essential.
“Travel insurance is more than just a formality. It’s a smart, practical safeguard that provides financial protection and peace of mind,” said Meet Kapadia, Head of Travel Insurance at Policybazaar.com.
Why travel insurance matters?
Whether it’s a missed connecting flight, sudden illness abroad, or a natural disaster disrupting your trip, travel insurance offers coverage that can save you from financial setbacks.
From trip cancellations to emergency medical evacuations, these plans are designed to help travellers cope with the unexpected.
This rising travel trend also comes at a time when global risks are rising.
“With geopolitical unrest, climate uncertainties, and health scares, travel insurance has become as essential as packing your bags,” said Rakesh Goyal, Director, Probus. “A lot of travellers still think it’s optional — but ask anyone who’s faced a medical emergency or theft abroad, and they’ll tell you otherwise.”
