To drive in any part of India you are required by law to hold a valid driving licence issued by your regional RTO in the state you live. In the state of Gujarat it is necessary to get a driving licence issued by their regional RTO to be a legal Sarathi and be able to drive a vehicle in any part of the country. A driving licence is required to drive both a personal as well as a commercial vehicle.
One can become a Sarathi by applying for driving licence after they turn 18 years of age. In case one has not reached 18 years but has crossed 16 years of age, they can apply for learner’s licence.
